First published posthumously in 1977, the present volume gathers together texts composed (rather than dictated) by Adrienne von Speyr between 1948 and 1950. Each text, occupying a single page of a notebook reserved for this purpose, was a response to a question posed by Hans Urs von Balthasar on a theme relevant to Christian faith: “Poverty today,” “the papacy today,” and “how to read Scripture,” are just three examples (a number of these questions were also left unanswered; a complete list of these is found in the table of contents). As Balthasar writes in his foreword to the book, “those having a bit of experience with Adrienne’s numerous works will recognize her Trinitarian, Christological, and Marian form of thought at every turn. And yet they will also find new things here, too.”
