This sixth of Adrienne Von Speyr’s Posthumous Works (edited by Hans Urs von Balthasar) contains what is in fact the second volume in a two-part work called Word and Mysticism. Entitled Objective Mysticism (1970), it explores the objective content of Christian mystical experience. For Adrienne, this content is nothing other than “the Word”: God’s self-revelation attested to in the Scriptures. Her re-centering of mysticism on God’s own speech about himself is reflected in the structure of the book, which accordingly takes the form of a theological commentary on the articles of the creed.
