The present volume (which also contains a revised version of Kergyma Today [Kerygma und Gegenwart], 1950) focuses on the form of Christ’s existence: the loving obedience to the Father by which, on the Cross, he reintegrates our fallen time into God’s original time and his eternal trinitarian life. This act, for Balthasar, is the center around which creation and history take shape. But, he argues, it is something else too: the archetypal act of faith, the space in which the Church’s belief becomes possible.
