In Theology: The Old Covenant (1967), Hans Urs von Balthasar presents volume III 2/1 of his The Glory of the Lord: A Theological Aesthetics (which is the third part of his Trilogy). Challenging any opposition between exegesis and dogmatics, Balthasar reads offers a biblical theology of glory based on the Old Testament. Without reducing the complexity of the ancient Scriptures, he shows that they can be understood as offering a multi-faceted witness that prepares a synthesis they themselves cannot achieve: the synthesis given only in the definitive revelation of triune glory in the person and Paschal Mystery of Jesus.
