This fifth of Adrienne Von Speyr’s Posthumous Works (edited by Hans Urs von Balthasar) contains what is in fact the first volume in a two-part work called Word and Mysticism. Entitled Subjective Mysticism (1970), it begins with an exploration of mystical experience in the Old and New Testaments, especially in Christ’s own Mysterium Paschale. This exploration lays the groundwork for a second part devoted to the forms and criteria of Christian mysticism. The book concludes with an examination of the mystical phenomena granted to Adrienne herself.
