This first volume of The Catholic Letters contains Adrienne von Speyr’s line-by-line meditative commentary on the Letter of James and First and Second Peter. Adrienne’s intention throughout is to read the text in the heart of the Church so as to plunge “into the spirit that guides each Apostle in the composition of his letter. This spirit of mission is the Holy Spirit, but he operates in inseparable union with the personal spirit of the sacred writer… The truth that is prayerfully contemplated is thus from both sides, that of the subject and that of the object, the one catholic truth.
